Toiletries and Health

Filed under: Healing — hygienehealth @ 5:00 pm

Many of you are here to read about what foods are best to eat for health and what exercise routines to do in order to stay healthy but most of you do not even realise that the products that you probably use each and every day are potentially causing you some grave health problems. The products that I am speaking of are the every day toiletries that we all take for granted as being a normal part of life.

Believe it or not when man first arrived on the planet there were no deodorants, anti-perspirants, toothpaste, lip gloss, make-up, skin softeners, bath beads, and the like. In fact in a study conducted recently it was found that there were 884 toxic chemicals found in the various products that people use every day. These are findings from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. There are probably many others that are found in these products but are not as widely known to be toxic, so the number is probably a lot higher.

An example is the popular sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), which is in everything from soap to shampoo to shower gel. SLS is known to destroy sensitive tissue in our eyes. Another one which comes to mind is propylene glycol, which is basically an antifreeze for cars. Recently I noticed that it was the main ingredient in an over the counter product to clean out your colon in preparation for a colonoscopy. At least your colon will not freeze. It is used in hair conditioners, deodorants, cosmetics, body lotions, skin creams and toothpaste. I suppose if you live in a cold place these might be helpful to keep the products from freezing when the heat is out. I doubt that you really want to use them to brush your teeth however.

Remember that as much as 65% of the products that touch your skin can get absorbed into your body. If you wouldn’t eat the product you shouldn’t be applying it to your body.

I see no reason to use most of the products in the first place. They simply did not exist when humans first arrived to the planet and we have the same bodies that we had then, so why do we need them now? The main reason why we need them is to keep the wealthy companies who sell them wealthy, it is all a great marketing scheme. Most of these products don’t do much to improve our life anyways.

Now you know that they will not only not improve your life but they can actually harm your health. If you really need to moisturize your skin then use coconut oil or olive oil. These oils can be eaten (I do not recommend eating them but they are not toxic) so rubbing them on your body is a lot safer than using a brand name product that contains harmful chemicals. Here is an article that goes further into this issue http://www.health-report.co.uk/toxic_toiletries_chemicals_cancer.html

Food Combining

Filed under: Diet — hygienehealth @ 3:37 pm

These are foreign words to most food eaters. What does food combining mean? Most people just eat whatever is on their plate or whatever they are in the mood for at the time and do not even have the slightest concern with how the food will digest after it is beyond the taste buds. The most offensive meal for bad food combining is one that is eaten at a buffet. Most buffet eaters will just take one of every sort of food on display and then have a nice big bowl of fruit for dessert.

It’s no wonder the drug companies are making so much profit on their antacids and other chemicals. Food combining is eating the right kinds of food in combination with other foods so that our digestive system can do a good job at digesting. This is not even a concern for the average person.

I think they assume that their stomach and intestines are some mechanical iron coated system that can process anything that is ingested. Unfortunately this is not true and our digestive system can only process certain combinations of foods. The reason for this is because enzymes and digestive fluids are created to digest the foods we eat. These digestive fluids are just chemicals that are able to reduce foods down to their simple forms such as amino acids, simple fats, and carbohydrates.

If the reader has any knowledge of chemistry they will know that many chemical reactions can be adversely affected by adding in other chemicals. The same goes for the digestive fluids of our body. If for example we ate some nuts or seeds and the reaction that digests them is currently taking place in our body, and then we eat a piece of juicy ripe watermelon this will cause the original reaction to slow down or even stop and then all of the foods will not get completely digested.

The body will continue to push the foods through the digestive path even if they are only partially digested or even not digested at all. The problem with this is that our gut is not a good place for undigested food. There are many species of flora and fauna found in the gut of a human. They live off of the broken down food that they receive from our digestive system. If they receive un-broken down food this will create an imbalance in the types of flora and fauna in our body.

In most cases the bad disease causing bacteria will proliferate and the healthy bacteria will die off. This can cause many problems such as candida, indigestion, flatulence, cancer, osteoporosis, alzheimer’s, and many other serious complications.

Our body works this way because when humans first arrived on the earth they were eating mainly fresh ripe fruits, leafy green vegetation and shoots. Most of the time they would find a tree full of ripe sweet fruits and camp out there for days or even weeks until they consumed all of the ripe fruit on the tree. This means that they ate only one kind of food for days or even weeks. The digestive system was designed for this scenario and it still works the same way today.

It is capable of doing a great job in digesting one simple thing at a time. There were no Chinese buffets at that time and there was no way to even try to consume several foods all at one time.

The basics of food combing are to eat fruits alone without eating other foods for at least 2 hours before and 1 hour after. Any kind of melon is a special kind of fruit and needs to be eaten all alone. This is because melons digest extremely fast and their digestion will be inhibited if there is something else in it’s way. Another important rule is to avoid combining fatty food like nuts, seeds and avocado with sweet fruits like bananas or dates. Blood Transfusions

Filed under: Healing — hygienehealth @ 7:15 pm

Everywhere we turn there is some publicity for some blood drive. The ads always attempt to explain that we will be saving a life or doing a good deed when we donate blood. There are often posters of children who we assume that their life was saved by some blood donor. The marketing people are very creative with this, they know how to reach into someone’s heart and tug at it. They try to make us feel guilty for not going out to do something for the good of another person even if the other person is a complete stranger.

Most people will agree with these promotions and believe that donating blood is a good deed. The truth however is completely the opposite. These ad campaigns are all requesting us to donate blood for free. Very few people who donate blood receive any compensation at all except possibly a free cup of coffee and a bagel or doughnut. Those who do get compensation receive very little money, possibly $5 to $15, in fact I have read that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) forbids the compensation to be more than $25 for a unit.

After these units of blood are collected and tested for the various microbes they are then sold at a much much higher price to the recipients. The average price of a unit is between $100 and $160. This is a guaranteed huge 600 to 700% markup for the collection agency. Sure they must process the blood and test it which costs money to do, but there is no competition here at all. If the hospitals need blood so badly there is a steady supply of people who die in the hospital every day, why don’t they use their blood?

The other reason why the whole system is wrong is because human blood should not be used the way in which it is being used. Most of the time we receive blood from someone who has the same blood type but that doesn’t mean the blood will not be rejected. Most often the doctor or hospital insists on using blood when it is not even necessary. This is a very cool money making scheme that the medical community has going. They take advantage of ill people’s ignorance and prescribe all kinds of medical procedures and drugs to make it seem as if they are doing some good.

Most if not all of these are completely unecessary. In most cases a saline solution can be much more effective than real blood, and this is only in an emergency when there is a trauma.

Another thing that the medical community doesn’t tell us about blood donations is that the receipient can actually get cancer from a unit of blood that was donated by a cancer sufferer. The donor might not even know that they have cancer and certainly the screening procedures do not scan for cancer cells. Since the cancer cells will stay alive throughout the donation, storage and the recipient’s receiving of the unit of blood, there is a good possibility that the cancer that was once in the donor can now start to grow in the recipient.

The medical establishment will deny this fact but there has been recent evidence that cancer in dogs can be spread from one to another. Our body is not very different from a dog’s (the circulation system and many other organs are similar).

Do yourself a favor the next time you get the urge to donate blood and skip it, just buy yourself a coffee (or preferably a healthy smoothie) and forget the blood donation.

Raw Food Myths

Filed under: Diet — hygienehealth @ 10:02 pm

As mentioned earlier in some of the older posts, raw foods which have not been tampered with or heated have the best nutritional value and are a big part of natural hygiene. Recently due to a lot of hype and press coverage, the raw food lifestyle has seen an enormous interest. Many people who want to improve their health are jumping on the raw bandwagon. This is all good, unfortunately a lot of the information that is available is not absolutely correct. There are a lot of myths on raw food out there, just as there are on most any new theory (as well as old). Here are some of the biggies that I have heard:

  1. Enzymes from raw food help us to digest them thus saving our own enzymes for other purposes. This is complete nonsense, the enzymes in raw food are the plant  enzymes that help the plant with it’s growth and other functions. These enzymes do not help in digestion. Humans create all the enzymes needed to digest everything we eat. The enzymes in the food get digested along with every other part of the food. This is a factor that many people who are against the raw food movement use to disqualify the diet as being useless, they state that we produce our own digestive enzymes and that we do not need nor use the ones in the food. This is true, we do not use the plant enzymes except to assimulate them into our body with digestion.
  2. Eating raw fat is different from cooked fat and therefore raw food eaters can eat all the raw fat they like. This is a big issue for many people new to raw food. Lots of people love to eat cooked fats and feel guilty doing so. They switch to raw foods and are told that their bad habit is now a good habit. This is a dangerous myth as too much raw fat is as damaging to the body as too much cooked fat.
  3. Eating anything raw is healthy. This is also a dangerous myth because there are many raw foods that people consume or overconsume which are very toxic to the body in the raw state. These foods include but are not exclusive of the ‘excitotoxins’ such as garlic, onions, radishes, hot peppers, spices, white and black pepper, vinegar (e.g. apple cider vinegar), salt, cacao, and many of the nouveau ’superfoods’.
  4. Eating a raw food diet will keep you from getting sick. The raw food diet is merely one of the many factors required to become healthy or more healthy. It alone will not assure that you will not get sick. The other factors that are mentioned on this blog need also be followed as well. It also depends on what kind of diet the person was consuming before they turned to a raw diet as well as the other intakes such as medications, supplements, herbs, drugs, tabacco, etc.
  5. Eating the raw food diet doesn’t require the correct food combining. Some people who understand food combining seem to think that eating a raw diet will allow them to forget all the food combining rules because raw food is so healthy and natural. This is simply not true and following good food combining is still important on a raw food diet.
  6. The enzymes in raw foods will all die at XXX degrees. This is partially true with certain foods. Most every raw food has it’s own temperature where it’s enzymes will die. There is not one magic temperature, every food is individual just as every species of mammal has it’s own normal body temperature.
  7. Superfoods improve your health. Superfoods for the most part are not even acceptable foods for a healthy person. They are well marketed and exploited for the medicinal value the native people have used them for, but they do not have any magical powers and in most cases could not be eaten as a meal. They are simply toxic medicines and not a food for a healthy person.
