Pharmaceuticals and Health
This is a little off topic for a natural hygiene blog but I thought I would address the enormous drug industry that is currently contributing to the grave sickness of modern society. This chain of huge wealthy conglomerates is a monster that controls our lives in many ways. I will speak mostly about the situation in the US because it is more familiar to me but the same conditions are true in most of the world as the rest of the world really tries to emulate the same structures that exist in the US.
There are many large, medium sized and small pharmaceutical companies throughout the world. Most started out as a much smaller company many years ago and grew by acquisition. As these companies grew they started to buy out some of the smaller companies in order to get new product lines and to remove the nuisance of competition. Now the largest companies average annual revenues are in the 25 to 50 billion US dollar range.
Here in the US there are very strict rules and laws that keep these corporations’ profits unusually high. There are laws that require their products be only sold through a drug dealer, these drug dealers are better known as medical doctors. These dealers write a prescription for the overpriced toxic chemicals for their patients who purchase them through their local pharmacy. In the US all prescription medications are sold through a network of licensed pharmacies who must employ a certified pharmacist to fill these prescriptions.
I see it as a very lucrative way to maintain a monopoly on unnecessary and useless poisonous products that have no value whatsoever to the human body. The evidence that the system is an economic monopoly in the US is that these same exact products that were actually manufactured in the same factories, on the same equipment are being sold in Canada and Mexico, the two neighboring countires to the US at substantially reduced prices.
In some cases the same medication is sold for 50% of the US price in Canada or Mexico. It’s no wonder that thousands of people in the US order their prescriptions from Canada or Mexico. Another factor here in the US is the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This government body supposedly exists to keep the people safe from the over greedy pharaceutical companies trying to sell useless or dangerous products that can cause harm or even death.
The government likes the people to think that is the purpose of the FDA but the real reason why the FDA exists is to keep the monpoly going and keep collecting the huge profits that these toxic products earn. It isn’t very difficult to find articles to confirm this fact, one of which is this one: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines/092500-01.htm . The FDA advisors who make the decisions on which new drugs should be allowed to be sold through the monopoly network have financial ties to the companies who make the drugs. This is only one important factor, another is the number of executives of the pharmaceutical companies who were hired out of the FDA.
Every single FDA advisor knows that his future earning potential is going to be influenced by the decisions that he makes while he is an advisor. If he or she votes to allow the blockbuster drug to go on the market which earns the drug company billions of dollars that he or she will get a nice starting bonus plus many many other benefits when he or she decides to take that job offer from big pharm in just a few more years. The entire system is a big joke and the public just believes the whole system is for their protection.
As recent as last year the FDA attempted to stop allowing the public from taking out class action law suits against the pharmaceutical companies http://www.newstarget.com/019497.html .
This is further proof that they are not working for the interest of the people but for the interests of the pharmaceutical companies. Companies like Merck whose product called Vioxx which has caused a large number of deaths and injuries is being forced to pay out large amounts of settlements to the families and victims of their toxic product for their negligence. See this article: http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/articles/Merck_Vioxx_litigation.html .
If you live in the US or have ever visited the US you will see the large lineups at the fast food restaurant windows. The many large SUVs and pickup trucks with these toxic food addicts in them will line up for as long as 30 to 45 minutes waiting for their food. The funny thing I recently noticed is the large number of drive-thru pharmacies that are popping up all over the place.
I chuckle when I see them because these same SUVs and pickup trucks are now also lining up at the pharmacy drive-thru windows after they get their toxic food. I came up with a suggestion for these companies to merge and have the food pickup window and the pharmacy window in the same line so they do not need to wait twice. To make it really efficient they should also include a drive-thru undertaker at the end of the line of windows so there will be no need to get out of line and back in line at all.
Nothing that a company can ever manufacture can do any better than the systems that we already have in our body to control health. Taking medicine is never going to help anyone acheive health.
